Near-Bookless Library for the Modern Age

Share

Well, we have a brand-new library in Woodland Hills. It’s a great big building, a beautiful building. There’s one problem, though. It’s missing something really, really important to a good library -- books. There is a lovely children’s area and a nice little teen area in the new library. There are lots of videos, DVDs and books on tape. There are copy machines and high-tech checkout equipment. There’s a meeting room and patio.

But guess how many stacks for adult books there are in this new library. Eight. What? Am I missing something? You double the size of the library but don’t put any more books in it? I thought Proposition DD was to create better libraries, not just beautiful buildings with not enough books for grown-ups.
