6 of 7 Suspects in Bank Heist Tracked Down
A speeding red Ford Mustang with a masked driver and several passengers sticking their heads out the windows as the car filled with red smoke caught the attention of an off-duty sheriff’s sergeant Monday.
He radioed for help and followed the car as it wove through traffic on Artesia Boulevard in Cerritos.
The seven men in the car had held up a Bank of the West branch on Carmenita Road, and a dye pack had exploded, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
After finding the Mustang abandoned at Whitney High School, deputies blocked off the area and found one suspect in a residence on Beach Street.
Another was spotted atop a wall and surrendered. Deputies and a dog found four other suspects hiding in nearby backyards. The seventh suspect was still being sought.
