MEN’S SOCCER

* NCAA Div. I quarterfinals, Indiana vs. UCLA, Drake Stadium, 7 p.m. Saturday -- The defending champion Bruins are one step away from a repeat appearance in the College Cup, but to get there they’ll need to end the career of legendary Indiana Coach Jerry Yeagley, who has announced his retirement at the end of the season. Yeagley is college soccer’s winningest coach, with a 541-101-15 record (14-3-5 this year) and five national championships in 31 seasons. The Bruins (20-1-1) will be without sweeper Dru Hoshimiya, who suffered a torn left knee ligament Sunday in a victory over Florida International. Junior midfielder Aaron Lopez is questionable because of a knee sprain. Both teams will be missing top players who are playing with the U.S. under-20 team at the FIFA World Youth Championship in the United Arab Emirates. UCLA will be without defender Jordan Harvey and Indiana will not have leading scorer Ned Grabavoy and defender Drew Moor.

MEN’S WATER POLO

* NCAA Div. I championships at Stanford, semifinals, 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; championship, 5 p.m. Sunday -- USC (22-3) has been the nation’s most consistent team. The Trojans, who face Navy (25-6) in the semifinals, are led by Juraj Zatovic (54 goals), James Shin (43) and Gabi Hadar (35). Bozidar Damjanovic is a formidable presence in goal for USC. Two-time defending champion Stanford (21-4) is coming off an 8-6 loss to the Trojans in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title match. The Cardinal is led by junior driver Tony Azevedo, who is regarded as one the world’s best players. Azevedo has 81 goals and is expected to win the Peter J. Cutino Award as the nation’s top college player for the third consecutive year. Endre Rex-Kiss, who has 54 goals, leads Loyola Marymount (16-13) into the semifinals. The Lions won the Western Water Polo Assn. championship.
