Chinese Premier Visits; Trade Is on Agenda
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Mexico for a two-day stay that President Vicente Fox hoped to use to discuss a potential investment-protection pact between the two countries and what Mexico says are China’s unfair trade practices.
Many Mexican industries have complained about an influx of low-priced Chinese goods and jobs lost to China. Mexico has imposed duties of more than 500% on many Chinese products, but they are still smuggled in.
Wen tried to reassure the Senate, saying: “We are not in any way rivals or competitors. We should look for some method ... to create a win-win situation.”
