Naslund’s Goal Lifts Canucks in Overtime

Markus Naslund scored with 47 seconds left in overtime to give the Vancouver Canucks a 2-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday night at Vancouver, Canada.

Naslund faked a move to the middle and lifted a shot over Jamie Storr, who made eight saves.

Vancouver’s Trevor Linden tied the score 3:17 into the third period, setting up the Canucks’ fourth consecutive overtime game and 10th in their last 14.

Rookie Alex Auld finished with 30 saves, including four in overtime, to help the Canucks wrap up a five-game home stand at 2-1-2-0.

Auld started in net after regular Canuck backup Johan Hedberg, who was scheduled to start, re-injured his left wrist during the morning skate.

Vancouver’s No. 1 goalie, Dan Cloutier, sat out a third consecutive game because of a groin injury.

Rookie Eric Stall scored his sixth goal this season for Carolina, which got 22 saves from Kevin Weekes before he left 8:48 into the third period because of apparent muscle cramps.

Dallas 1, Chicago 1 -- Michael Leighton made 31 saves for the host Blackhawks and Marty Turco stopped 29 shots for Dallas.

Steve Sullivan scored for Chicago in the first period and Sergei Zubov tied the score in the second period with a short-handed goal.

The Blackhawks, 1-10-3-3 in their last 17 games, have scored 12 goals in their last seven games.

The Stars are 1-5-1 in their last seven games, with only five goals.
