Don’t belittle California’s big cats
Re “Hunting Humans?” (Dec. 2): Humans are unlikely to curb urban sprawl or share the top of the food chain. At the same time, most humans are in favor of ensuring mountain lion survival. Something has to give. And, if the grizzly bear is any indication, there will come a time when my daughter, or hers, will go on a hike and no longer see the unmistakable tracks of North America’s largest “small” cat. This foreseeable and preventable tragedy would make California, and our planet, more of an ecologic wasteland than it is becoming every day.
