‘Significant’ movies named

“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” the 1969 Western outlaw romp, was one of 25 “culturally or aesthetically significant” movies selected for preservation by the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry on Tuesday.

Spanning the years 1894 to 1988, the list also included: 1944’s “National Velvet,” starring Elizabeth Taylor; the 1928 silent comedy “Show People,” starring Marion Davies; the 1974 documentary “Antonia: Portrait of the Woman”; 1970’s “Patton”; , “White Heat,” a 1949 gangster film with James Cagney; Pixar’s “Tin Toy” short (1988); and “The Chechahcos,” the first film produced in Alaska.
