Irvine Co. Gift Keeps Tutoring Center Open

A $60,000 gift from the Irvine Co. will keep open an after-school tutoring center in Orange that had been slated to close today because of a lack of funding.
The donation, presented Thursday at a celebration at the THINK Together Highland Teen Center, will ensure that the facility remains open at least another year. Parents held a garage sale and sold 4,000 tamales to raise enough money to keep the center open for a month after its threatened closure.
Founded in 1997, THINK Together provides free homework help to tens of thousands of low-income students at its 11 centers in four Orange County cities.
