U.S. Makers Still in Fashion for Some Stores

Regarding “Teenagers’ Mall Habits Keep the Los Angeles Apparel Industry Fashionably Healthy” (James Flanigan, Dec. 17):
Many manufacturers, particularly in the Korean quick-turn market, have maintained their manufacturing base domestically.
One of the reasons behind the success of retailers such as Forever 21 is that they are sourcing most of their product from domestic manufacturers at competitive prices.
Although many of my law practice’s clients have begun to source production offshore in China, Vietnam, Russia, etc., many are still producing fashion items domestically.
Until the state of California, the U.S. Department of Labor and the California Department of Labor Standards and Enforcement succeed in making it impossible to produce in California, a production base will remain.
