Toy Giveaway Turns Chaotic; Child Killed
HONDURAS
Crowds at a Christmas toy giveaway in Honduras surged out of control, killing a 7-year-old girl and injuring about 80 people, police said.
The crowd at National Stadium was larger than expected, and thousands of children came to Saturday’s event without parents, authorities said. “The crowd tried to push forward in long lines to get the gifts,” a police spokesman said. “Chaos broke out.”
The 7-year-old died from asphyxiation and other injuries, police said. Of the 80 hurt, more than 60 were children who suffered fractures, bruises and seizures, firefighters said.
