From Times Wire Reports

Terry Anderson, a former Associated Press correspondent who was held hostage in Lebanon for nearly seven years, said he will run for the Ohio Senate next year.

Anderson, 56, a Democrat, will seek the seat held by Republican Jim Carnes, who is leaving for a job with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Anderson was the chief Middle East correspondent for AP when he was kidnapped in 1985. His captors were pro-Iranian Shiite Muslims with a clear, though unsuccessful, agenda: to obtain the release of terrorists who bombed U.S. and French embassies in Kuwait.
