A Solution for Prison: Execute the Condemned
According to “San Quentin’s Prime Property Is Eyed” (Dec. 26), there is a proposal to expand the death row section to 1,024 cells, either at San Quentin or another location. At this time, 600 death row prisoners live in overcrowded conditions. I see a simpler solution: carry out the executions. These convicts committed capital crimes and received the death sentence. Yes, they should have appeal rights, but such rights should not linger on and on for 10, 15 or more years. If death sentences are carried out in a timely manner there should be no overcrowding.
Criminals must be made to understand that crime does not pay instead of that it gives them a cozy jail cell with TV, three meals a day and no need to work.
