D.A. Again Accuses Vons Chain of Overcharging
For the 11th time in two months, the Ventura County district attorney’s office has filed a criminal complaint alleging that the Vons supermarket chain overcharges its customers.
The complaint alleges that various Vons stores in Ventura County charged prices that were not advertised, posted or quoted. During routine test purchases, inspectors were overcharged on various items. Vons is accused of posting one price on items on the shelf and then charging a higher price at the register.
On Oct. 11, Judge Edward Brodie ordered Vons to pay $3,240 after a conviction for selling short-weight chicken products. Another scanning violation case involving the Vons store on Rose Avenue in Oxnard is set for jury trial on Feb. 25.
