A rival film to the entry by Golden Globe winner Pedro Almodovar swept Spain’s national film awards Saturday.

“Los lunes al sol” (“Mondays in the Sun”), about Spanish shipbuilders adjusting to unemployment, took five Goya awards, including best picture, best director for Fernando Leon de Aranoa and best actor for Javier Bardem.

Almodovar’s “Hable con ella” (“Talk to Her”), which recently won Hollywood’s Golden Globe for best foreign-language film, took just one Goya, for best original score. It had been nominated for seven. “Mondays in the Sun” had already received the Spanish film academy’s nod over “Talk to Her” as Spain’s candidate for an Oscar nomination for best foreign-language film.
