City officials say they won’t name a park Steven Stayner Park, but may consider the name Steven’s Park.
The City Council rejected a recommendation by the parks commission Monday to name the park after Steven Stayner -- the late brother of Cary Stayner, who has been convicted of murdering four women in or near Yosemite National Park.
Steven Stayner was kidnapped from his Merced home as a child in 1972, and escaped eight years later. Several residents raised concerns about the connection to Cary Stayner.
