Day-Care Provider Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison in Child’s Death
A San Fernando Valley day-care provider was sentenced Friday to three years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and other charges in the death of a toddler.
Omolabake Ajoke Martinez, 30, the licensed owner of the Martinez Family Child Care Home in North Hills, was sentenced by Judge Gerald Richardson after a two-day hearing in San Fernando Superior Court.
On March 3, 2002, Martinez left 19-month-old Silaedy Richardson unattended for 25 minutes and returned to find the child face down in a shallow pond, prosecutors said. The child later died at a hospital.
The state temporarily shut down the facility after the death.
