From Staff and Wire Reports
A police officer was critically wounded Saturday evening when an armed motorist stepped from his vehicle and began firing at officers who had pulled up to his car for a closer look, authorities said.
The suspect, who was also shot and gravely injured, attracted the notice of patrol officers when he was driving along South Maddock Drive at 7 p.m.
As officers approached, the suspect allegedly sped up, pulled into a driveway, left the car and began shooting, police said.
