A $1-million donation from Wells Fargo Bank will fund a teacher-training program and a small-business center at Cal State Northridge, the university announced Monday.

The gift will be shared equally by the university’s Michael D. Eisner College of Education and the College of Business and Economics.

New scholarships for future teachers will allow them to earn a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential in about the same time as a regular degree.

The business college’s small-business program trains students for careers as entrepreneurs and consultants.

University President Jolene Koester has recommended renaming the center the Wells Fargo Center for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

“If you go into any Wells Fargo branch in the San Fernando Valley, odds are you will find Cal State Northridge graduates and students working there,” Michael Fronmueller, dean of CSUN’s College of Business and Economics, said in a news release. “Our college is committed to providing a highly educated work force for the banking and financial services industries.”

Wells Fargo officials said the donation is the company’s largest to any nonprofit or community group in the Valley and its largest to any university in the region.
