Montebello police released a composite drawing Thursday of a man sought in connection with the bludgeoning death of the owner of an Italian restaurant.

The body of Salvatore DeLorenzo, 67, was found in his home early Wednesday by police, who had found his car parked illegally a few blocks away about 12:20 a.m.

The man police seek is described as Latino, in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 7, with thick, wiry, parted hair. Neighbors saw him run from the house about midnight, Police Lt. Don Ramos said.

DeLorenzo owned Salvatore’s, on 6th Street near Whittier Boulevard in Montebello, a restaurant popular among city police and civic leaders and often used by community groups for meetings and banquets.

“We held a lot of meetings there,” Ramos said. “The first officers who arrived at the scene certainly knew who he was.”

Montebello City Administrator Richard Torres said a “lot of residents went through those doors. And Sal was always there.”
