2 Bid to Alter Policy on Officials’ Alarms

Amid public outrage that Los Angeles’ elected officials get free burglar alarms and do not have to pay fines for false alarms, two City Council members proposed Friday to eliminate the special treatment.

Councilmen Dennis Zine and Eric Garcetti introduced a measure that would require all the city’s elected officials to pay out of personal funds the annual fees for alarm permits and any fines for excessive false alarms at their private homes.

“The alarm systems at the private homes of the city’s elected leaders should be subject to the same rules and requirements as any alarm system within the city of Los Angeles,” Zine said.
