Rice Growers to Sell Water to Southland

From Times Wire Reports
Sacramento Valley rice growers will idle some of their paddies this year and sell water to Southern California for the first time, under an agreement reached last week.
Metropolitan Water District will pay $9.7 million for 31 billion gallons from water agencies north of Sacramento. The water will be enough to supply about 200,000 families.
It was the first time the MWD has exercised its option on the water and could signal future sales as Southern California tries to supplement its dwindling supply from the Colorado River.
