UC Santa Barbara Has LSU Working Overtime

Aiysha Smith’s three-point basket with 55 seconds left in the third overtime put No. 4 Louisiana State ahead for good as the Tigers held off No. 20 UC Santa Barbara, 94-90, Saturday at Baton Rouge, La. The game was tied 16 times and had 14 lead changes.
The Gauchos (18-4) cut the Tigers’ lead to one at 89-88 on a three-pointer by Debby Caine with 43 seconds remaining, but LSU outscored them 5-2 the rest of the way. Smith had 30 points.
The loss ended Santa Barbara’s seven-game winning streak. LSU (22-1) faced a top-20 team for the fifth time in six games.
Kristen Mann led Santa Barbara with 27 points. Jess Hansen had 23 and Mia Fisher 13; 6-foot-8 center Lindsey Taylor also had 13 before fouling out late in regulation.
LSU took an eight-point lead in the second overtime before the Gauchos came back, tying the score, 80-80, on a three-point basket by Hansen with 12 seconds left.
No. 6 Stanford 84, Washington State 41 -- After ending a 45-game losing streak, the second-longest in Division I women’s history, the Cougars lost at Pullman, Wash., for their 36th consecutive defeat against the Cardinal. Stanford (20-3, 12-2 Pacific 10) made six three-point baskets in the opening 11 minutes to take a 30-11 lead. Washington State is 1-22, 1-14.
In other games, Nicole Ohlde scored 16 of her 24 points in the first half to help No. 5 Kansas State (23-2, 10-1 Big 12) beat Oklahoma State, 64-46, at Manhattan, Kan.... Sophia Young had 26 points and 17 rebounds to help Baylor (16-7, 5-6) upset No. 7 Texas Tech (20-3, 9-2 Big 12), 86-72, in overtime at Waco, Texas.... No. 10 Louisiana Tech (21-2, 13-0 Western Athletic) won its 19th in a row with a 79-67 victory over Nevada at Ruston, La.... Freshman Nina Norman scored a season-high 19 points to help No. 11 Texas (17-5, 10-1 Big 12) defeat Iowa State, 65-55, at Ames, Iowa.... No. 21 Wisconsin Green Bay (20-3, 11-1 Horizon League) never let Loyola Chicago closer than 20 points in the second half during a 98-61 win at Green Bay, Wis.
