Better Late Than Never for These Questions
With apologies to one of your reporters, Thomas Bonk:
News item: The Daytona 500, NASCAR’s biggest event, is halted because of rain a little more than halfway through the race and a winner is declared. And no one questions the decision?
Reaction: Imagine the outcry against media whipping boy Bud Selig if he stopped Game 7 of the World Series after five innings and declared a winner?
News item: Brown wins at Princeton for the first time ever Feb. 14 -- ending the longest road losing streak against one opponent in NCAA men’s basketball history. Brown had been 0-52 at Princeton dating to 1908.
Reaction: There are bigger stories, but how could this not have deserved at least one sentence in The Times (before now)?

So the big stories to report on Monday were golf and race car driving? Why bother? Might as well not print a sports section and wait until pro football’s training camp begins, if that’s the best you can do. Driving a car in circles is not a sport and neither is golf. You might as well put bowling and extreme sports on the front page while you’re at it.
