A plan to add security and safety improvements to Los Angeles International Airport received a lift Thursday with the announcement that the Bush administration has placed the airport master plan on a project priority list to help speed up the federal review process.

The decision was announced by U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, and means the LAX Master Plan will receive priority environmental review, potentially speeding along federal approval, officials said.
