France Denounces Helicopter Attack
From Times Wire Reports
France condemned a deadly helicopter assault by Ivory Coast troops on a fishing village in the former French colony, calling the attack an “intolerable” breach of a cease-fire deal with rebels.
Rebels, meanwhile, threatened a new offensive in retaliation for Tuesday’s assault on Menakro, 40 miles west of a main rebel stronghold, Bouake.
French troops trying to enforce a crumbling October truce said a helicopter fired on dugout canoes and a market in Menakro. France’s Foreign Ministry said 12 civilians were killed.
