From Staff and Wire Reports

The decision of the new Kern County sheriff to be sworn in at a church has sparked complaints that he is mixing religion with his public role.

“What about the separation of church and government?” said Lois Chaney of Kern County’s League of Women Voters.

Sheriff-elect Mack Wimbish is to be sworn in Monday at Calvary Bible Church, where his family attends services. Organizers said they tried to find a secular venue but couldn’t locate an available location.
