Passenger Train Hits Freight Train, Killing 18

An express passenger train slammed into a stationary freight train in Parli, India, killing 18 people and injuring 18 others, railroad officials said.
Railways Minister Nitish Kumar told the Press Trust of India that “strong action” would be taken against an assistant station manager and a switchman who fled the scene, but he did not say what they had done.
A railroad spokesman in Hyderabad said 11 bodies were recovered from the train and that seven people died at a hospital.
