Storr Can’t Deliver Replacing Potvin

After giving Jamie Storr limited playing time to start the season, Coach Andy Murray gave him his third start in four games Tuesday night against the Dallas Stars.

But Storr struggled again in a 7-4 loss to the Stars. He was pulled in the second period in favor of Felix Potvin after giving up three goals and then gave up one more after returning in the third.

“We got up, 1-0, early and even though they only had five shots in the first period, they took a 2-1 lead going into the second,” said Storr. “If I had made a couple of big saves early, that could have helped the team.”

Last season, Storr was a model backup, finishing with a 1.90 goals-against average, the best in his career.

And, when he got his chance to start five consecutive games in November, Storr played well and the Kings went 2-1-2.

But things are much different this season.

“When it happened last year, the team was in kind of a slump and we went out there and played the way that made us successful,” Storr said. “We had a lot of key components to our team playing. This year, we have a young group of guys and we’re playing a different style of hockey. We’re trying to play solid defensively and get key goals offensively.... It’s like we’re putting too much emphasis on not making any mistakes.

“Hockey is a game of mistakes and when you go out there trying to make no mistakes ... you take away from just playing the game.”
