3,000 Endangered Turtles Found Dead
From Times Wire Reports
Nearly 3,000 endangered olive ridley turtles have been found dead off India’s east coast, killed by fishing trawlers at the start of the nesting season.
Nesting did not take place last year along the coast of Orissa state because 16,000 turtles were killed, most after being caught in fishing nets.
Environmentalists blamed the state for failing to enforce a ban on fishing within six miles of the coast during nesting season.
