Councilman Pacheco’s Chief of Staff, 36, Dies
Lloyd Monserratt, chief of staff to Councilman Nick Pacheco, died Thursday morning while recovering from surgery.
The abrupt death of the 36-year-old aide shocked many at City Hall, where the UCLA graduate was known for his involvement in Los Angeles politics.
He managed Pacheco’s 1999 campaign and was expected to be an integral part of the councilman’s reelection bid this spring.
Monserratt also worked as an aide to then-school board member Victoria Castro, did Latino outreach for local congressional campaigns in 2000 and helped Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Los Angeles) in his 2001 mayoral bid.
