Cooper, Gomez Have This Market Cornered

Share

One thing is just about certain in tonight’s $26,500 Denim N Diamonds Handicap -- the winner will be trained by either John Cooper or Jaime Gomez.

They have four of the five entrants in the 350-yard dash for 3-year-old fillies, the feature on a 10-race program.

Cooper will send out Royalclassic Express, who had won two in a row before finishing third in her most recent outing Dec. 21, and Babe With Rhythm. Gomez’s horses are With Reflections and Boogie Special. The only other entrant is First Rate Choice, trained by Concepcion Balderrama.

A daughter of Strawfly Special owned and bred by Gomez, Boogie Special is the only filly in the race fresh off a victory. She won an allowance at 9-5 on Dec. 27 and has won two of four. She’ll break from the outside ridden by Rodrigo Aceves.

With Reflections, who will have a new rider in Carlos Bautista, has won three of seven. Babe With Rhythm has won four of seven.
