* Philip Morris Cos. said it would not appeal a federal court ruling that let stand a 1993 Environmental Protection Agency report that said secondhand smoke causes cancer.

* The Commerce Department eased licensing requirements for general purpose microprocessors, making it easier for companies such as Intel Corp. and Motorola Inc. to export computer chips.

* Struggling computer maker Gateway Inc. is immediately closing four of its retail stores as part of ongoing cost-cutting measures. The stores are in Encinitas, Calif.; Fresno; Memphis, Tenn.; and Spokane, Wash.
