Dodgers Get Jumped in Game of Checketts

I’m so glad to see that David Checketts is interested in buying the Dodgers. After all, he is the man who is responsible for building the New York Knicks and Rangers into the franchises they are today ... the most poorly run organizations in both sports. These two teams had a history under Checketts of overspending on poor talent. Come to think of it, his transition into Dodger ownership should be smooth.

What a difference nearly a half-century makes:

1957 -- Walter O’Malley breaks the hearts of Brooklynites, Dodgers move to L.A. for greener economic pastures.

2003 -- Peter O’Malley on chance to participate in new ownership of Dodgers: “My heart tells me yes, but my head tells me that it doesn’t make any economic sense.”

1960 -- Residents of Elysian Park displaced to build Dodger Stadium.

2003 -- Report: Tycoon Alan Casden’s interest in buying Dodgers is precipitated on replacing Dodger Stadium with new housing, presumably worth millions.

Now, the most likely buyer of the Dodgers is a New Yorker? What’s next, a new stadium near the Long Island Rail Road? I think this is where we came in.
