Post 9/11 villains

Being an avid Denzel Washington fan, I recently chose to watch again “The Siege” on the USA Network. This movie was made before the Sept. 11 attacks, when movie moguls apparently believed that Arab extremists were a danger to this country and portrayed them as such.

After Sept. 11, Hollywood made a movie based on a popular Tom Clancy novel, “The Sum of All Fears.” In the book the bad guys were Arabs, but in the movie they’re Russians. Why? Because now that Muslim extremists have proven to be enemies of our country, Hollywood has decided that it’s politically incorrect to portray them as such. Apparently it’s better that the enemies are Russians.

Are we to deduce that Russians are less sensitive than Muslims and, therefore, are fair game for Hollywood filmmakers?

Many of the bubble-headed residents of that great Left Coast city are now choosing to get in front of any camera, any time, to dazzle us with their vast knowledge of foreign policy. What a hoot!
