Prisoner Recaptured 9 Hours After Escape

An accused rapist who slipped out of his handcuffs at a hospital Wednesday was recaptured nine hours after his escape, police said.
John Hicks, 54, of Cypress complained of chest pains and was taken to Western Medical Center-Anaheim, where he escaped about 1:30 a.m. when the deputy briefly left the room, police said.
Hicks, who was jailed Jan. 7, was rearrested about 10:30 a.m. near a friend’s home in Fullerton.
