No keeping up with Jones on the chart

It took Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me” album nearly a year to reach No. 1 on the national sales chart, but the pop collection isn’t giving up the top spot easily. The album sold an additional 112,000 copies last week to top the chart for the third consecutive week.

The closest rival was the “Chicago” soundtrack, which sold 92,000 copies to move up two places to No. 2 on the chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Jones’ reign will be challenged next week by Billy Corgan’s new band, Zwan, whose “Mary Star of the Sea” got off to a fast start on Tuesday, its first day in stores, retailers reported.

The biggest jump in the Top 20 this week belongs to Kid Rock’s “Cocky,” which is enjoying a remarkable resurgence. Released in late 2001, the album reached No. 7 on the chart, then fell out of the Top 40 before rising again, thanks in part to the hit single “Picture.” The album moved from No. 15 to No. 7 after selling 59,000 copies last week. Its total is now 2.3 million.

Of the albums in the Top 40, Eminem’s “The Eminem Show” continues to have the biggest total sales. The album, released in May, has sold 7.8 million copies.
