A flight instructor and student pilot were killed Thursday night when their plane crashed into a hangar at General William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster and burst into flames, fire officials said.

The student had been practicing instrument landings when the twin-engine Beechcraft crashed into the top of the hangar at 7:40 p.m. The fire spread through the hangar and destroyed a Cessna inside.

No one on the ground was injured. Neither victim was identified.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 20 minutes.

Damage was estimated at $400,000.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were called to the scene.
