Oilers Rally to Tie Behind Chimera

Rookie Jason Chimera scored 5:40 into the third period as the Edmonton Oilers rallied twice from deficits to tie the Vancouver Canucks, 3-3, Thursday night at Vancouver, Canada.

Chimera, who had two goals and an assist in a 5-1 win over Minnesota on Wednesday, took a pass from Brian Swanson alone in the slot and waited out Dan Cloutier before putting a shot just under his outstretched blocker.

Eric Brewer and Scott Ferguson also scored for the Oilers, who trailed, 2-0, after the first period and 3-2 after the second.

Trevor Linden, Henrik Sedin and Todd Bertuzzi scored for the Canucks, who gave up the lead against a division opponent for the second straight game.

New York Islanders 3, Montreal 1 -- Michael Peca’s short-handed goal 4:44 into the third period helped the Islanders win at Uniondale, N.Y., and move into seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Oleg Kvasha and Mark Parrish also scored for New York, which moved past Montreal in the standings.

Tampa Bay 3, Carolina 1 -- Martin St. Louis scored three goals and John Grahame made 24 saves for his fourth straight win to lead the Lightning at Tampa, Fla. St. Louis completed his first hat trick with a rebound goal with 1:40 left in the third period. It was his 27th goal of the season.

Columbus 2, Nashville 1 -- Espen Knutsen scored his first goal since Oct. 29 and Marc Denis stopped 33 shots for the Blue Jackets at Columbus, Ohio. Knutsen was playing in only his second game since returning after sitting out 39 games because of an abdominal injury and surgery.

Washington 2, Pittsburgh 1 -- Kip Miller’s 11th goal of the season broke a third-period tie and gave the Capitals the victory at Washington. Michael Nylander had two assists and Sergei Gonchar also scored for Washington, which is 3-1-2 in its last six games.

Detroit 2, Florida 2 -- Roberto Luongo stopped 33 shots and Viktor Kozlov scored with 12:30 left in regulation to give the Panthers the tie at Detroit. Detroit goalie Manny Legace made 35 saves and sprawled out to stop Olli Jokinen’s shot on an odd-man rush early in overtime.

New Jersey 5, Philadelphia 1 -- Martin Brodeur came within 1:58 of posting his fourth consecutive shutout against the Flyers and defenseman Ken Daneyko had a rare goal and an assist at East Rutherford, N.J. The loss was the fourth in a row for the slumping Flyers, who even handed in the wrong lineup card, forcing them to play a part of the first period with only 11 skaters.

Chicago 3, Boston 1 -- Theo Fleury scored two goals and Jocelyn Thibault made 44 saves at Boston and the Blackhawks ended a six-game winless streak. The loss was the first in a Bruin uniform for Jeff Hackett, who stopped 17 of the Blackhawks’ 20 shots.

St. Louis 2, Buffalo 1 -- Keith Tkachuk scored with 1:34 left in overtime and the Blues held the Sabres to 17 shots at St. Louis. On the winner, Tkachuk, on his way down, slid the puck into the open left side of the net off a feed from Pavol Demitra for his team-leading 20th goal.

Toronto 5, Atlanta 2 -- Tie Domi scored a goal, picked up the 200th point of his career and got into a fight at Atlanta as the Thrashers were handed their second loss in eight games since Bob Hartley took over as coach.
