A former Red Bluff police officer has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the fatal dog mauling of a kindergartner.

After nine hours of deliberations, a Tehama County Superior Court jury on Monday also found Charles Schneider guilty of owning a mischievous animal causing death.

During the trial, prosecutors said Schneider knew his dogs were dangerous and didn’t do enough to keep them from running loose. The dogs, named Pinky and Buddy, escaped from Schneider’s yard in February 2002 and attacked and killed 6-year-old Genoe Novach.
