After scoring only six runs during a four-game losing streak, the Toronto Blue Jays got two home runs from Carlos Delgado, four runs batted in from Vernon Wells and another strong outing by Roy Halladay (12-2) in an 8-2 victory over the host Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.
Delgado has 28 homers and 91 RBIs.
Halladay won his 12th consecutive decision. He has not lost in 15 starts since April 15 and his winning streak is the second-longest in team history to Roger Clemens’ 15-game string in 1998.
Halladay gave up two runs and seven hits and walked none in seven innings. He struck out three.
“That guy can do a lot of things that no one else can do,” Detroit’s Matt Walbeck said. “In one at-bat, he threw a 2-0 curveball, a 3-1 curveball and a full-count curveball and struck our guy out. There aren’t too many pitchers with that kind of command of a breaking ball.”
Seattle 13, Oakland 0 -- Joel Pineiro (9-5) gave up three hits in eight innings at Oakland to win his fourth consecutive start and stretch the Mariners’ lead in the AL West to seven games.
Bret Boone had two hits and drove in two runs and Dan Wilson had four hits. Mike Cameron drove in three runs and Edgar Martinez hit a two-run homer.
Chicago 8, Minnesota 6 -- Roberto Alomar scored the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning in his White Sox debut, trotting home on Frank Thomas’ second homer of the game.
Pinch-hitter Paul Konerko hit a tying, solo homer with two out in the 11th for the White Sox.
Alomar, acquired in a trade with the New York Mets on Tuesday, had one hit. Carl Everett, obtained by Chicago from Texas on Tuesday for minor leaguers, was hitless.
Boston 5, Tampa Bay 4 -- Pedro Martinez pitched seven solid innings and Nomar Garciaparra, Trot Nixon and Kevin Millar homered for the Red Sox at St. Petersburg, Fla.
Martinez (6-2) struck out seven and moved ahead of Cy Young into second place on Boston’s career strikeout list with 1,343.
Kansas City 8, Cleveland 2 -- Raul Ibanez drove in three runs without getting a hit and Darrell May (2-4) pitched a six-hitter for his third career complete game to lead the Royals at home.
Ibanez drew a bases-loaded walk in the first, drove in a run with a fielder’s choice grounder in the fourth and had a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
New York at Baltimore -- The game was postponed because of rain and will be made up Aug. 14.
