Not Much to Elaborate On

Share

When Elaborate enters the starting gate for today’s seventh at Hollywood Park, he’ll be trying to end a losing streak and perk up his stable.

A former stakes winner, the 8-year-old Gilded Time gelding has lost 11 in a row since winning an allowance race by four lengths on May 13, 2001.

His trainer, Paco Gonzalez, has only three wins this year, the latest coming when favored Head Of The House won Wednesday’s sixth.

The one to beat in the race, a $55,000 optional claimer at 6 1/2 furlongs, is the comebacking Total Limit.

Trained by Gary Mandella, the 4-year-old Boundary colt has not raced since finishing last in the San Carlos Handicap, a Grade I, at Santa Anita on March 2.

A winner of three of his previous five races, Total Limit is the one to catch under jockey Alex Solis.

The rest of the field is completed by Rushin’ To Altar, American System, Los Solano and Boss Ego.

Race of the day: Surprisingly will try for her third victory in a row since being claimed by owner-trainer Kathy Walsh for $25,000, running in Hollywood Park’s fifth race, a $51,000 allowance at 1 1/16 miles on turf.

One for the road: Grand Heritage has Lasix added and is switched to turf in his second start in today’s fourth at Belmont Park. The Grand Slam colt exits a race that produced subsequent stakes winner Chapel Royal and most maidens from William Mott’s barn improve with experience.
