‘Becker’ escapes CBS’ lineup ax

After nearly being canceled, the Ted Danson comedy “Becker” finds itself back on CBS’ fall prime-time lineup, with the network opting to delay introducing “The Stones,” a new sitcom from the producers of “Will & Grace.”

“Becker” will air at 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays after “The King of Queens,” another former Monday-night series. CBS insisted the decision did not reflect a lack of faith in the new show, about grown kids dealing with the divorce of their parents (played by Judith Light and Robert Klein). The hope is that “Becker,” as a known commodity, will help bring more viewers into the network’s new 10 p.m. drama from David E. Kelley, “The Brotherhood of Poland, N.H.”
