The Baltimore Orioles put left-hander Omar Daal on the 15-day disabled list Thursday and recalled Rick Bauer from triple-A Ottawa.

Daal complained of soreness in his left shoulder earlier this week, and an MRI revealed tendinitis in his rotator cuff. He hasn’t pitched since June 27, when he gave up three runs in three innings against Toronto.

Daal is 4-10 with a 5.86 earned-run average in 16 games. He was demoted to the bullpen after yielding eight earned runs and 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings in a loss to Toronto on June 23.

In another move, the Orioles signed outfielder Ruben Rivera to a minor league contract. In 31 games with the San Francisco Giants this season, Rivera hit .180 with two homers. He will report to double-A Bowie on Saturday.

The Colorado Rockies shut down all the escalators at Coors Field while engineers tried to determine what caused one of them to accelerate and cause dozens of terrified fans to fall on each other after Wednesday’s game against Arizona.

Club spokesman Jay Alves said 23 people were treated and released from area hospitals. Nine remained hospitalized, none were critically injured but their conditions were not released.
