Sales Leads Sun Past Liberty, 62-58

The Connecticut Sun overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to defeat the New York Liberty, 62-58, Sunday in front of 6,154 at Uncasville, Conn.

Nykesha Sales and Shannon Johnson sparked the Sun’s second-half rally. They each scored six points during the final 3:27.

An 18-foot jump shot by Sales with 1:15 left gave the Sun a 57-55 lead. Her two free throws with 18.2 seconds left clinched the victory.

Sales finished with 14 points and became the 21st player in WNBA history to reach 2,000 points.

Taj McWilliams-Franklin was the only Connecticut starter with a basket in the first half, in which the Sun trailed, 32-20.

Indiana 85, Detroit 54 -- The Fever set franchise records for steals and margin of victory in front of 6,765 at Indianapolis.

Tamika Catchings, who scored 17 points, had six of the team’s 20 steals. Catchings also had three of Indiana’s 11 three-point baskets, which tied a franchise record.

A three-point shot by Coretta Brown with about five minutes left gave the Fever an 81-44 lead, the biggest lead in franchise history.
