Intel Corp. plans to cut prices on its Celeron desktop and notebook processors in August but maintain the prices for its higher-performance Pentium 4 through October, an analyst said.

Tai Nguyen, an analyst at SIG Equity Research, said he learned of the price cuts from Intel customers who had seen Intel’s product roadmaps, which include information about future products and plans to cut prices of existing products. An Intel spokesman said the company would not comment.

According to the roadmap, Intel plans to cut prices for its Celeron processor, aimed at entry level and lower-cost machines, by 5.9% to 13.6%, on Aug. 24, Nguyen said.
