Rockies Complete Sweep of the Giants

After a double and a homer in his first two at-bats, Preston Wilson wanted to stay aggressive. He did, and it paid off.

Wilson had two homers and a career-high six RBIs, and Darren Oliver (7-5) hit his first major league homer and won his fourth straight decision as the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Francisco Giants, 11-3, Thursday night.

Wilson led off the second inning with a double off the wall in left-center and followed with a three-run homer to right in the fourth. Instead of thinking the Giants might pitch around him, Wilson went up looking for a fastball.

He got it on the first pitch he saw in the fifth inning and sent a drive to right-center for a two-run homer.

“I went up there looking to be aggressive because I didn’t want to fall into that trap of thinking they were going to pitch around me because I hit a couple of balls hard early,” Wilson said. “I just wanted to stay with my same approach, and they came after me and I was ready.”

After struggling last season with Florida, Wilson has flourished at Coors Field since being traded to Colorado in the offseason.

Wilson leads the league with 89 RBIs -- five more than the team record before the All-Star break -- and has 22 homers after his second multihomer game of the season.

In the two-game sweep of the Giants, the All-Star center fielder was seven for nine with 10 RBIs and raised his average to .307.

Barry Bonds homered for the second straight night to give him 641 in his career, 19 shy of Willie Mays for third on the all-time list.

San Francisco had not lost a series since dropping two of three to Oakland June 20-22 -- a span of five series.
