Fine the Drivers Who Cause Traffic Accidents

I am late to work (once again) due to yet another accident on the 405 Freeway. This time, a five-car pileup. It’s becoming a far-too-frequent occurrence. I see an average of three wrecks a week, all in a 10-mile stretch. I propose the state start fining people $500 if they cause an accident. The money could be used to balance our budget rather than raising taxes on the usual things (alcohol, cigarettes, gas, car registration).

Maybe people would hang up their phones, put down their newspapers, shavers, makeup -- you name it -- and pay attention. The fines should be doubled if you cause another accident. Hey, guess what? If you keep hitting people, you should not be driving. Take a bus until you learn. I’m interested to see how many other people would agree with this.
