Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber added two Galaxy players Thursday to the MLS All-Star squad that will play Mexican club team Chivas at the Home Depot Center on Aug. 2.

South Korean defender Hong Myung-Bo and midfielder Mauricio Cienfuegos, the Salvadoran playmaker who will retire at the end of the season, were Garber’s selections.

Both are in South Korea with the Galaxy as it prepared to play 1860 Munich of Germany today in a Peace Cup Korea 2003 match.

“I think I can speak for them when I say that they’re thrilled, honored and eager to participate in such a historic event,” Galaxy General Manager Doug Hamilton said.

They join goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, defender Danny Califf and forward Carlos Ruiz to give the Galaxy a league-high five players on the 18-man team.

Besos for Socks

Tim Leiweke, president of Anschutz Entertainment Group, looks nothing like the fabled chupacabra of Latino lore, the vampire-like beast who sucks the blood and life out of goats. But should Chivas beat the MLS All-Stars, Leiweke could be known as besocabra, or, the goat kisser.

Leiweke made a bet with Chivas President Ivar Sisniega on Thursday that if the Mexican side emerges victorious, Leiweke will kiss Chivas’ mascot, a goat which wears Chivas’ colors.

But should MLS win, Chivas owner Jorge Vergara will have to wear a pair of socks chosen by Leiweke.

Chivas in MLS?

Sisniega acknowledged that Chivas, which takes pride in using only Mexican players, has had talks with MLS about possibly putting a team in the United States’ domestic league.

But he stopped short of saying whether Chivas would buy an existing team or get into the league via expansion.

Gold Cup

Mauricio Molina’s goal with 12 minutes remaining enabled Colombia to gain a 1-1 tie with Guatemala on Thursday night at Miami and win its round-robin group of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Mexico also advanced with a 0-0 tie against Honduras in Mexico City.
