Authorities Crack Down on Basque Separatists

Nine suspected members of the Basque separatist group ETA have been arrested in five Mexican states, said Jose Luis Santiago, head of the organized crime division for the Mexican attorney general. Bank accounts were frozen and manuals on how to make chemical weapons were also seized, Santiago said.
The suspects are believed to be part of an active ETA cell operating in Mexico, Santiago said. Six are Spanish citizens wanted in Spain on terrorism-related charges. The three others are Mexicans.
