Let’s hope it’s not the cheese
A cluster of hepatitis A infections among music fans who attended concert festivals this summer has prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to dispatch staff members to Northern California to interview possible victims and to educate others about the virus.
CDC workers were scheduled to attend performances by Colorado-based jam band the String Cheese Incident, which headlined some of the festivals where the infections appear to have been spread.
About a dozen cases of hepatitis A have been confirmed among people who attended concerts in Sedona, Ariz., Telluride, Colo., Santa Fe, N.M., and Manchester, Tenn. A few other cases have been identified in people who attended festivals where the band was not on the bill.
The String Cheese Incident posted an advisory Thursday on its Web site, along with information about hepatitis A.
